Hi,
I have converted lots of avi files with no problems after the guidance of people on here. I have really hit a wall this time.
I have an avi file. I used the free version of vso_DivXtoDVD and have since upgraded to the paid version of this software.
The problem is, I convert my avi file as normal and when I check it all okay on the PC computer. But once I have burned the item to dvd and play in my dvd player the sound is like somebody under water.
I have tried to burn at a slower speed, tried -r disks and +r disks, but still the same. Does anybody know why this would happen. I have since found another conversion I did is exactly the same with the sound like somebody in water, very echoy.
Please help.
Thanks
Barry

Thought I would put more details to this;
The 2 streams within the avi file are:
Stream 1: mpeg4 672x352
Stream 2: Audio, mp3, 48000hz, Stereo, 128 kb/s
Please anyhelp appreciated. -
I would hazard that the audio is VBR MP3 and where the problem lies.
Just a quick and easy solution that may help:-Try converting audio to AC3 (ffmpegui-freeware and very easy); encode video only as normal. Reauthor both files. -
Hi Sorry about this am new to all the conversion etc..
Okay, so I have used the piece of software to extract the sound from the avi file. Now, how do I get the video out. I can get it into VOB files okay, but cant do much with it. What do I use after I have converted the sound to AC3. Then also, to put the two together the audio and video.
Help most appreciated.
Thanks

I hope that there is someone that could let me know the process. We all start of learning at some point, so any help would go a long way. I have learnt so much from this site. But this area, I am stuck on. All I need to know is the process and also the software.
I have learnt how to exctract and convert the audio, but how do I do the same with the video. I have created just the video only in VOB files, but dont know what to do next. -
Now as I understand it, you have an ac3 audio file, an avi file (audio and video) and vobs (audio (bad one) and video). If it is so, you need to extract the video only from the vobs. I would recomend to use Rejig for the task (in File mode). Add the vobs, mark MPEG2 Video and click Demux. Now you have ac3 audio and a m2v video file. Now start ReJig again in DVD Author mode. Load video file, load audio file (it is obvious where and how), set an output folder and click Start (or what is called I don't remember).
Hmm, I am still awaiting an answer of my previous question. Seems you don't take it in consideration. -
If you do have MP3 VBR audio: ConvertXToDVD (Or DivxToDVD) doesn't always handle MP3 VBR audio well.
What I do if I encounter it, is to drop the file into VirtualDub or VD Mod and save out the audio with full Processing as a WAV audio file. If it is MP3 VBR, VD will let you know immediately. You can add that back in (mux it) with the video. The video would be set at Direct Stream copy and not be altered. ConvertXToDVD will then accept this modified file and convert as usual.
When I have a questionable new video file, I drop it into Gspot (V 2.52) first and see what the audio and video formats are. It will indicate VBR or CBR audio or the type of audio on the file. There are a lot of both audio and video formats out there and not all programs can handle them all properly.
If you want to modify the VOB, then follow Abond's advice. But I try to check the AVIs before I spend the time to convert. -
Hi there,
Thanks for the tips. I have to find out how to use the virtual dub. I can see what you mean by extracting the audio and yes it does say VBR audio. So I extracted the audio and converted to wav. Then i selected the source audio that I saved out, and saved as AVI but when I ran through the convert program, it became very dubbed in the middle of the movie.
So, what is the correct way to use virtual dub by extracting the sound, If there is a guide you can point me to it would be most greatful.
Thanks
Barry
PS: Abond, sorry for not replying about the sound, but I through the disks out and got rid of the files. Will try again if I have time and report back on that. I know I have another disk where the sound is just like this, so will see what it plays like in the computer and come back to you. -
I use VirtualDub Mod as I like the way it handles audio better than the regular VirtualDub. There is this guide: https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=280779 Make sure to use full audio processing. For your purposes, just use the guide till you get to this part: 'The audio will now be extracted:' It will be large, maybe 800 MB, but you will delete it later to free up space.
Now that you have the WAV file and VDMod is still open, go back to the 'Stream list' and select 'Add'. Add in your new WAV file. Left click on it, then click 'Move up'. Left click on the old VBR audio and click 'Delete'. This will not harm your original file. Click 'OK' and close the window.
Now go to 'Video' and select 'Direct stream copy'. Save the video with the new WAV muxed in under a new filename.
Open DivxToDVD or ConvertXToDVD and use this new file for the input. When you have successfully converted to DVD format, delete the modified VDM file and the WAV file to free up hard drive space.
This has always worked for me. If the converted file still has sync/audio problems, it may have been corrupted or damaged.
