I use avi files - i know they come in different bitrates but for a 700mb avi on my comp. it took about 1.5 hours to process and burn thru s2d,
then for the same size file it began to take 3 hours, then stretched to 5 hours !!!
my cpu temp reaches 35 deg C. - no dust on the heatsink, fresh grease on the cpu
nothing changed in the comp.
anyone had this before
i run intel pent.4 2.0ghz
1 gig 400mhz ram
46 gig free on HDD

The size of your sources is not important... The duration is. What are the durations of the three runs? Are you doing anything different between the runs (2 pass/pal->ntsc/ntsc(film)->ntsc)?

My last project was a 43min avi which took 4 hours to process (in the past its been atleast half this time) i have noticed that it has been doing ntsc(film) to ntsc as with my other projects
I only have pulldown ticked in the video encoding options
and in the audio options, i have mpeg audio checked + keep audio if ac3 + keep audio if 48 mpeg audio. -
on secong thought - i dont remember if i was using pulldown before but im pretty sure that i wouldnt have unchecked it if it was checked thru defalt.

ok. Have you got some logs to compare?

Do you defrag frequently?

It will always save time. One drive reads, the other writes as opposed to a single drive having to switch back and forth.
