    hi, whats the best format to convert avi files to for burning onto dvd. the avi's i have do not play on a burnt disc. i'm using ffmpegx or handbreak to convert the files but for some reason they don't play. im using toast 7 to burn discs. thanks

    HandBrake does DVD to MP4/AVI/OGM, not the reverse.
    ffmpegX has a nice DVD preset.
    Toast will convert AVIs to DVD as well, just drop it in the Video tab.

    Make sure the AVI plays okay in QuickTime Player, as the decoder relies on it.

  3. MPEG Streamclip does a good job too, it's pretty much all I use when converting files these days.

    So do i except for transcoding to mpeg 1/2 files.
    Capty 2 is fine too.

    You'll need to ensure Quicktime will play them. I reccomend FFusion codec for quicktime. It'll help quicktime play most files.
