I attempted to install iTunes and Quicktime for an iPOD on my PC. Part way through the Quicktime install, which was automatic rather a choice and part of the entire procedure, it said it failed. When I clicked on the iTunes icon, it said it couldn't work without the current version of Quicktime (7.x rather than 6.x). I uninstalled eveything and attempted to re-install from the CD. Now it doesn't install Quicktime. Now when I click on the iTunes icon, it gives me an error message saying it can't run becasue it is missing files that are required, and to re-install. I have been through this twice with the same result. I'd appreciate any advice as to what to try and what is going on. Thanks.

What OS are you using? I don't think QT 7 will install on anything earlier than WinXP, maybe 2K.

If you are using XP, you can also try using System Restore to roll your system back to a point before the attempt at installing Quicktime and iTunes.

I've noticed WinAmp also allows you to access the iPod (a recent program addition) and transfer music to and from it, but I'm not sure if you have to have anything else installed (like QT and iTunes, for example). I've always just used iTunes.
