Edit: Ugh, I just spent the last hour looking for sharpening filters... only to look over the two in fullscreen one after the other again only to find out the NTSC one is the one that looks sharper and more vibrant and well... better. lol.
Re-edit: Strange it's VLC player that's doing it. The first one I open looks great, while the second one always looks less detailed. Strange. -
You have a 4:3 widescreen source i.e., not 16x9 anamorphic widescreen.
It also appears to be PAL format (720x576)
You can leave it as 4:3 Widescreen or you can convert it to 16x9 anamorphic widescreen.
To convert it to 16x9 anamorphic widescreen you would cut 72 from the top and cut 72 from the bottom. Then you resize what is left (720x432) to 720x576.
