I think you're seeing something that isn't there. They were identified as El-Aurian refugees, but nothing was ssid sbout it being after their world was destroyed. They could have beem from a settlement, or another ship that was damaged or destroyed, or a myriad of other possibilties having nothing to do with the Borg. They clearly had been a spacefaring species for hundreds of years as we know that Guinan herself was on Earth in the 1700s. My guess is that they were spread accross the galaxy long before the Borg destroyed their homeworld. I think this is what Guinan is referring to when she says her people survived the Borg attack. But I don't think we really don't know when the El-Aurian home world was destroyed, it could have been before or after the events that took Kirk into the Nexus.Originally Posted by j1d10t"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

As I have stated before, Gene had eluded in his movies and the series that the Voyager merging (V-GER) is the Borg. There was a statement he made, before he died, in a magazine I read years ago that said he was going to bring V-GER back in a whole new species. For the life of me I have not been able to remember the magazine nor been able to find anything about it since. (just one of those things that eat you up for decades) The Slipstream capability was to bring the whole thing together. V-GER was supposed to continue to be a data collection unit, but knew how to assimilate beings into itself. Somehow it started assimilated other beings to learn about them. In that, it would also learn about different technologies and use that in itself. It became a collective. The name "Borg" is also supposed to represent something from earth, which was another clue to it's origin. But that's another item the writers seemed to throw into some dark corner to be forgotten about and never used.
I don't even know if they can ever bring that reference back, but Gene is no longer at the helm. :/

According to startrek.com the Borg destroyed El-Auria 27 years before the incident in Generations. And El-Auria is way outside Federation space, so it's not like the trip would have taken them a matter of days - maybe 27 year, maybe not. And although startrek.com says that Guinan was not on her planet when the Borg attacked, Dr. Soran might have been since his family was killed by the Borg - maybe they were killed before t they attacked El-Auria, maybe after. Startrek.com doesn't say. And wouldn't Starfleet want to know where their home planet was? Even just for their records? You would think so. And if they were told where it was, wouldn't the El-Aurians also be tell them "oh, by the way, that's where it *used* to be. A species called the Borg destroyed it. You might want to watch out for them." Doesn't that make (even a little bit of) sense?Originally Posted by gadgetguy

They wouldn't tell them about the borg because they are a race of "listners". They know that tipping them off would disrupt their natural development.
Even Guinan said that Q introduced Starfleet to the Borg before they were ready.
The El Aurians would just want to be helped out and probably made a cover story to protect the rest of the alpha quadrant from knowledge of the borg.
Think about it - if you were a race of advanced, long lived aliens would you want to panic an entire quadrant about beings they weren't supposed to meet for another two centuries? (two because generations was 80 years before the BORG TNG episodes and Guinan indicated Starfleet wasn't ready for them for a long time later).Donatello - The Shredder? I've always held to the statement Gene made years ago in that only what you see on the screen is canon, everything else is speculation. (Although he was quick to point out that the Animated Series doesn't count as "on the screen".) I don't recall ever seeing anything on the screen that set that 27 years figure, but I could have missed it. Do you have a screen reference for it?Originally Posted by j1d10t"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

No wonder non Treker fans(spelling?) call us sad.
It is only entertainment and sadly it went downhill after TNG(though I enjoyed DS9 but it wasn't as good as TNG).

Treker is spelled trekker fyi

Why? We are simply discussing something that we are interested in and have our own thoughts, perceptions, observations, and theories on.Originally Posted by Robbins1940
By using this criteria, as a recent example one could conclude that the fans of the World Cup are sad. You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree that it went down hill. I enjoyed each of the series for different reasons but they were all better programming than most of what gets on television these days."Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

It doesn't really make sense for the El-Aurians to withhold that information from the Federation/Starfleet....
