I just got a 100 pack sold as Ty DVD-r. I burned a few and they are TYGO2.

    1. Are there two types of TYGO2 - 4x and 8x? If so how can you tell which is which?
    2. I have an NEC3500A with Herrie's firmware. With Nero or DVD decryptor should I set burn speed to Max, 8x, or 4x? I am interested in the best qaulity burns. Is "Max" risky?

    Thanks!!

I found an answer to my 2nd question - I think... on the inner ring the number is: GG000106 - since it begins with "GG" that means I got 8x.

  3. These are Value Line TY. They are sold as 4X but are 8X. Sometimes these are TYG01 or TYG03. You can burn them at 8X with no problem.

Value Line is supposed to be more prone to errors but this is rarely the case.
Still a few bugs in the system...

It's interesting you mention this. I've used the 4x TY's almost exclusively. My last burner was an 8x MagicSpin and could only burn them at 2x. However, my new burner is a 16x NEC 3550A and it burns them flawlessly at 4.1x (according to DVDdecrypter). Both burners had underrun protection. But, for some reason, the old MagicSpin would choke on the 4x speed and make nothing but coasters. Go figure...

I just bought some 4x from SuperMediaStore and they're all TYG02. Are they perhaps selling the higher speed discs erroneously as the lower speed discs?

  7. I burn the G01s and G02s at 8x with the 3500 and factory firmware without any problems.

Nope. Value Line can be TYG03 16X, TYG02 8X, or TYG01 4X. They can all burn at 4X so that is how they market it. Also, the re-seller doesn't have to worry about which one they get. I would think that TYG01 will be scarce; one re-seller is marketing Value Line as 8X.
