I've never created menus for the homebrew DVDs I burn. And, I'd certainly not want to create full-motion menus or anything too fancy. But, I'd like to create a simple menu with single-photo background and simple push-buttons. And, at the fanciest, all I'd like to be able to do is perhaps add some background music to the menu.

So, I'd like to find out what menu creation software people would recommend for a beginner. Something simple and intuitive. Cheap would be a plus, too (grin).

The cheapest would be DVDAuthorGUI or GUIforDVDAuthor. Both are front ends to DVD Author, and it's all free

Payware, I would recommend Tmpgenc DVD Author

Both will do what you need.

Hmm. I actually have and use DVDAuthorGUI ... but didn't know you could "create" menus with it. I'll have to give it a second look. Thanks.

My bad - GuiforDVDAuthor creates menus. DVDAuthorGUI is for simple disc creation only.

AVI2DVD can create simple menus quite easily if you're converting from AVI's. You can even add background music.

Actually you can create motion menus with DVDAuthorGUI provided that you have Avisynth installed. They work pretty well!
GUIforDVDAuthor will create menus too I think and so will DVDStyler.
All are free and DVDAuthorGUI and DVDStyler are free software (Open Source).

    Hope this helps,

    Roger
There are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick.
