What do I need to compress to DivX?

I've figured out all of the stuff for taking a DivX and putting it onto a VideoCD, but I've never had to go in the opposite direction? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but what program should I use (if any) to take an uncompressed AVI or MPEG and convert it to a DivX? Thanks for any responses,
