I recorded a mini dv tape on my sony mini dv camcorder and the sound keeps going in and out on the tape when I play it back (I can not hear all of the sound...parts I can hear then it goes silent). I have tried cleanind the camcorder with a mini dv head cleaner twice and it still does it. Is there any way to get the sound back? or is it lost forever? It comes in and out so all of it is not lost but it makes it hard to watch the video. I had this scanned through airport x-rays but my hubby said that would not cause this problem because it would have ruined both the video and audio.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I can post more information if needed...I did not know what all to post since this is the first time this has happened.

Could there be a problem with the tape itself?

    Thanks in advance.

Try another miniDV camcorder (store?) stay with the brand (Sony) as it is not guaranteed that it will play flawlessly even if the tape was perfect. It is not a flaw, it's just the nature of the beast. Digital recordings are very sensitive even to very minor video head adjustment differences. Do all your other tapes play correctly? Take with you also another one that plays perfectly.

What are you playing it back on, if it's just the camcorder have you tried transferring it to your computer to see if the problem still exists?

If you transfer it to computer and the problem still exists you can amplify the volume if you can hear something....

There's been a few posts on here about this. Supposedly they are not supposed to do anything if they are set up properly, persoanlly I wouldn't trust that though. They make lead lined bags which essentially will force them to search by hand. I'll have to agree with your Hubby though, it wouldn't just corrupt the audio.
