  1. History: I orginally had a Apex AD-1500, I used CloneDVD and AnyDVD to Rip backups, I made 95% of them With DVD-R's and the rest with DVD+R becuase the Apex seem to work better with the DVD-Rs. I burnt them at 2-2.4x. Last year the Apex died and I Got a Pioneer DV-270 (I used this site to make that decision (as well as the Apex) due to the reports of the Posts) for the 1st 3 months it was fine, then it would start to pick and choose the DVD-R it felt like playing, some times it would play a particular movie fine 10 times in a row and then start skipping 1/3 into the movie. So I decided to get a Yamaha DVD-S550 Some movies that didn't play right in the Pioneer play fine in the Yamaha while 3 movies that I just tried to watch (1 of them worked in the Pioneer) started skipping 1/3 into the movie

I'm lost as to how to salvage my collection. I only use verbatim,

Should I try to dupe them and burn at 1x

Should I try to dupe them to a DVD+R

or just give up and start searching Ebay for retail disks

I'm really lost Has anyone with this problem found the solution? TIA

I would start by using DVD Info Pro to read test the discs to see if they are the problem. If the discs pass, you may have environmental problems you need to look at.

Do you or anyone in your house smoke ? The residue will kill the laser pickup

Do you live in a dusty region ?

Do you have poor electrical services ?

How do you store your discs ?

Just use your originals or make new backups from them.

Oops I can see that you do not have the originals anymore since you question whether buying them on ebay is a good decision. In this case I'd say you are violating the law by maintaining a backup library of videos you are not a rightful owner of.

This is called Warez and is punishable by up to $250,000 or five years in jail. Your only solution is to realize the error of your ways and support the people who support your entertainment and legally own your media before and after you decide to back it up.

Please note the line that I put in BOLD FACE (emphasis mine).

Subtle yes but this is clearly WAREZ
