I have an OPPO OPDV971H DVD Player and its remote has been driving me nuts lately because it is not backlit. When I watch a movie, the lights are off, and the remote not only lacks backlit keys, the layout of its keys is terribly generic/unintuitive as well. Can anyone recommend a third party, backlit remote that WILL work with my Oppo and that is not ridiculously expensive?

    Thanks!

  2. A nice, affordable remote is made by ALL IN ONE remotes, available at Radio Shack & many other places for about $30-40 depending. I have 2 of them & they have lasted 2 years already. SOme have programmable buttons, back lights, macro functions and learning mode. Just the thing for that off brand Apex or Sampo that lots of remotes don't support.

Damn.. the Logitech Harmony 880 looks SWEET, but that's far too expensive. No way in hell am I going to give $250 for a universal remote control . Well, I would, perhaps, if I had a $10,000 home theater system... and that I don't

I'm looking at the All-For-One KAMELEON. Looks great.

I will not spend more than $10 on any remote
Meaning that you would not buy any of the devices you linked to? $10 is a bit of an extreme upper limit for this category. I'd say something great can be found for between about $20 and $60, which is still pretty cheap for this kind of device.

I can't find any good comparative reviews out there. The best one I've found is here: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,112918,00.asp, and that's from 2003 :/

The Kameleon does look like a good pick though.

For what... the Kameleon? Doing that right now.

Of course the ultimate choice would be the Logitech Harmony 880 but that's just out of my league and completely unnecessary. I just want a remote that will let me control my HDTV, my Oppo DVD player and my RCN cable box and will let me do all that in the dark!

Does anybody have anything negative to say about the All-In-One Kameleon? If not, I think I'll get that. It's moderately priced and the best device of its type I've come across in that price range.
