  1. Sorry if this is a stupid question I am new to all this and can find anything on it or not using the right search words.

My question is can I use a hdmi to usb cable to connect my hd-dvr to computer then capture the video in realtime on computer with some sort of software. or should i just buy some sort of caputer box that is HD that captures from my digital cable or OTA, not sure what is easier or better I have never really done any of this for HD. I used to do it a while ago with my basic cable. What would be best, cost, quality, and ease of use. Thanks for all your help.

There is no such thing as a HDMI in, USB out cable or converter. It is not practical to capture from this port.

Most capture the letterboxed 480i downscaled version off the S-Video port.

    or OTA,
Only the D-VHS recorder is supported, but then most "cable" HD channels are copy protected. You can copy the "local" DTV (SD or HD) channels.
