Hi all
Got a few questions that im hoping sum of you may be able to help out with.
In a nutshell im a newbie to all this video stuff, my first prob is, ive got a Sony handy cam ( dcr pc101e cam specs here , im aware that i will need a capture card but have no clue which would be suitable for my cam and pc, can anyone recommend a card?.
second, is there any specific software i should use to capture? Im assuming the actual capture card will have some sort of software with it? Im going to be using Sony Vegas 6 to do some minor editing, can this be used to capture?
and lastly (phew) the final video production will be output to dvd for viewing on tv. What sort of out put settings can you recommend for output from Vegas.
I know alot of questions, ive mooched through the forum and seen similar probs but the choice of cards / software / output settings is way beyond me.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light.
cheers
Rikki

Your video camera has firewire (ilink). With the Vegas 6 software you have, you just need a firewire card (which you pc may have). You can capture, edit, and author your video with nothing but the Vegas software. Some articles discourage using onboard firewire and recommend a dedicated firewire card. I have done both with no problems and achieved the same results. Normally, I try to use the dedicated firewire card, just to ensure I don't run into problems. If you only have onboard firewire card (iee1394), give it a try. As long as you aren't getting dropped frames, and no sync issues, then you are good to go. Just make sure you have 2 hd's. One HD for your OS and software, and one for capturing and saving files to.Originally Posted by SkwishRob
