I have a router that is connected to the internet connection and another router which is plugged into the first router. I've got the internet working on all the computers connected to both routers, but i would also like to be able to share files between all the computers. Is there a way to do this? Changing the IP address of the router, perhaps?

This works great on computers on each individual router. However I want to be able to share files between the computers on seperate routers.

have you turned off any firewall features on the 2nd router? can your 2nd router function as a hub and get its IP address from the first router via DHCP?

Right click on each computer icon, then properities, then network id, and change all their Network ID to the same, one computer at a time.
Make the folders sharable, or drag them into each PC's share folder.
You also can shared an entire harddisk, i.e. You assigned that harddisk as a server disk for the network -
Do you have problem or just asking how to question? all computers to share file need to be on the same subnet and workgroup. PTP sharing type .. Also you don't need 2 routers unless you have a purpose for it.

Both routers need to be on the same subnet, you did not specify if you have computers plugged into each router. Second router essentially becomes a hub if on same subnet, which you need to be in order to share files.
Why are you using two routers? Other than providing extra connections, or an additional layer of NAT, there is no useful purpose for this. -
I have the same setup. My first router accepts the cable modem and is a hardware firewall. My 2nd router is wireless. I have the same exact problem as you, so what I did was, unplug all computers from the 1st router and plug them all into the 2nd. All that is plugged into my 1st router is the 2nd router and cable modem.

You may want to go thru the feature of your wireless router, Most likely it also has a firewall. In that case, you should able to plug the modem directly into the second/wirelss router. Some wireless router don't have upstream port, and only has lan ports, in that case you need a cross-over cable ( same $7.99 at staple ).

What I would do in this case (if you haven't already found something different for your setup), Is turn the second router into a switch/hub. The first router is setup with everything already (or should be) so the 2nd would be overkill. Change the IP address of the 2nd router to something like 192.168.0.50 and then log back in to turn off your DHCP to make it into a switch. You should then be able to use it like a normal hub and adjust your network settings however you want.

I have a couple of Linksys WRT54G and I have the same setup. Look if your router has a setting called oprating mode.
My router connected to ADSL is configured as Gateway.
My second router connected to the fisrt one is configured as Router. As Doramius mentioned DHCP is disabled in my second router.
Iīm using non linksys firmware to acomplish this. I have DD-WRT, but Thiborīs HyperWRT will work also. Plese note that these firmwareas are supported only on WRT54G/GL/GS Ver. 1 to 4. Ver 5.x is not supported.
