    Hello all,

I am looking to capture some video (from TV, for my own posterity ). It will be regular SDTV, and I'll probably wind up putting them to DVD.

My question is which would be the best solid, reliable, and fully-featured capture software I can use? I am looking for something that will work with my BFG 7800GTX (but I may buy a dedicated capture card like a Kona or something later on, so I'd like something that's fully compatible).

    thanks!

    zoobie-
i believe it comes with an HDTV adapter and a TV adapter, with RCA and S-Video. You can see 'em here:

No problems there, I dont think. Really, I'm just looking for some kick-ass capture software. Are those two you mentioned realtime, full res, full frame, uncompressed capture softwares?

(oh, and DVIO seems like its for use only from a DV camera... and i'm not using one)

Try VirtualVCR or iuVCR or TheFlyDS

I don't know if they will work with your card or not but those are all very good capture programs that are best used when you capture to an AVI file such as when you use the HuffyUV codec.

    hi FulciLives,
I just tried iuVCR and TheFlyDS... TheFlyDS hardly worked at all, and iuVCR seems to kinda work, but i get lost frames, especially at the beginning of the capture.

My video card came with Ulead VideoStudio SE 9.0, which seems to capture ok... but is there any way to use another codec other than the MPEG-2 that it comes with (that runs out in 30 days??) ..or, a way to capture uncompressed?

I don't know other than to say ... try VirtualVCR ... if that doesn't work then I don't know what to tell you other than to get a dedicated capture card ... I would go with a hardware MPEG card (like the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 or ADS Instant DVD 2.0) or a DV capture device (like the Canopus ADVC-110 or DataVideo DAC-100).

    uncompressed is absolutely huge
DV is the way to go
If John's suggestion doesn't work, try checking out the link below.

i dont mind huge -- I have plenty of space, on fast drives, and i'm only going going to capturing a few minutes at a time.

are there any other softwares that people like/recommend?

  9. There is no solid program when comes to computer, only if your computer is stable. The best program is the one that comes with your capture system. I use ATI and stop as much services as I can and disable auto start of any other program reboot and get ready for capture. Suggesting other programs I would say Ulead DVD Workshop so it would be ready for authoring if it is compatible. Capture program must work with the device and have codecs too which most cases don't. I hear one of the good options is investing in DVD recorder.
