Transitions in Ulead DVD Workshop 2 using slide shows

Is it possible to do a transition in WS2 from a First Play video to the main menu WITHOUT a non-linear editing app?? If so, how?? I've been trying for a couple of hours now trying a slide show (last frame of First Play video and first frame of main menu) with no success. I can't get the slide show to play between end of First Play and start of main menu..

I know I can do a transitions from menu to menu using slide shows and playlists (no editor needed).. Help w/b greatly appreciated.. thanks.

Yes, I did search there but didn't find the answer. I posted here b/c I know there's a couple of WS2 'experts' here who would probably know the answer (Lordsmurf, George??).

I guess the question can be more directly posed as this: How do I link:

First Play-->Slide Show (the transition)-->Main Menu ??

I don't own an editing app... yet.

You may have to merge the firstplay and transition into a single firstplay. Yes, that needs an NLE of some sort, unless you can cheat and do it in the MPEG domain with MPEG tools (TMPGenc would work, MPEG TOOLS after both are encoded MPEG).

I've never tried a transition between firstplay and main menu, I always make it the entire length of the firstplay.

Hmm. Well, both are already mpeg's(??).. The First Play is a short mpeg2 action sequence (mpg file), which ends abruptly with pause... and the slide show is simply two mpeg screen captures at 704x480--last frame of first play video + first frame of main menu--along with a transition added from WS2's transition options when creating slide show.

How do I make the 2 mpeg screen captures to a..um.. an mpg file in TMPGEnc? I've used MPEG Tools before to mux/demux.. Do I just import both frames and merge them?

Lastly, I'm not understanding.. How do I make the entire first play to include the main menu in WS2 (without an editor, that is)? I thought FP could not have any functions/buttons/commands, etc..? thanks, LS.

If the file specs match (both similar bitrate, same resolution, same framerate) then go to that last option to join MPEG files.

The whole menu cannot be firstplay. But you asked about something leading into a menu, and that is the firstplay (plus transition).

not sure exactly whsy u need. i have done this before...

1. create dvd slideshow using nerovision express - no menu!
2. convert slideshow vob to mpg with vob2mpg v1.
3. use the mpg as first play in ulead.
