Having major problems, with recorder. I get write fail errors when recording a show and now the format option does not complete. If I replace the burner with one off the shelf will this cause me problems or do I need a special burner from daytek for this unit. Thanks -garman

If you don't get any answers, pull the case off and see if it is a regular DVD burner, with the proper 40 pin IDE connectors and a Molex power connector. If not, it's doubtful.

So if it's a standard connector I should be able to use any brand name in it's place? The other problem it is a single layer +R +RW burner. can I use a multi-format (+ -) drive. Thanks -garman

There may be a lot of 'ifs' involved. If the connectors fit and a different drive will fit, and if the DVD recorder can recognize the drive, and operate it....... I wouldn't buy a burner for that purpose just yet, but you might try one in there and see if it will work. The DL format probably won't work, along with + or - selection. A lot would depend on the recorder and how it operates the drive.

That appears to be a rebadged Lite-on DVD recorder. See here for some info:

It seems they recommend using a Lite-on burner for replacements in the regular Lite-on recorders. Maybe some more info for replacing a drive in the Lite-on Recorder forum: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=153421

And you might find more if you dig around there a little.

I don't want to get your hopes up too much, though.
