    Hi everyone!

I have a website where im planning to put some videos(streaming) and ive been doing some tests to decide which format i should use.

    source file:
4 minute captured from vhs mpeg1 clip 352x288

    output files were 8 megs

i tried windows media encoder for WMV, Mpeg streamclip and quicktime pro for Mov/h264, the thing is that i read that Mov format is better for streaming and will have a smaller size, but on my tests so far both look the same, WMV will even look better when viewed fullscreen.

Does anyone have any tips on how to "maximize" the MOV format or is WMV better?

i tried to encode the same clip with StaxRip and using x264 and the output was no different at 5 megs than the WMV anf MOV output?

Is it possible to stream "x264"

    Thanks

    Ricardo

Every .mov I've seen was a much larger file size than .wmv. I like .wmv because the player comes with Windows and no extra download is necessary to view it. 320x240 or thereabouts is a good video size for the internet.

Zoobie that was quick! the final resolution on my clips is 320x240 if im doing something wrong and i could save a few megs in each im planning to stream, i woulds choose the Mov format as internet here for most people in my area is paid by the minute, fortunally i have broadband.

lets see if anyone "defends" the Mov format!

    Thanks zoobie

Well, if they don't have a mov player, they'll have to spend the time (and money) to download it.

I just read an overview of mov vs real vs wmv. They concluded they were very close to each other but actually voted for the real filetype with wmv a close second. Again, according to this, they'll have to spend the time (and money) to download a real player.

Sure...let's hear from the other members on this. I'm just reporting what I read.

they could always just download the quicktime alternative(smaller size) and play the mov files with windows media player.

    thanks
