I am using DVD Lab Pro to make a PAL DVD., I have some stuff at full D1 format and have had no problems with this in the past.

However I also have a small clip at low res. I can use TMPGEnc to encode this to .mpeg format in any size I like, but when I encode to full D1 or half D1, I end up with a very slow and jerky picture upon playback - obviously a poor source.

I would be quite happy to have a much smaller image in teh centre of my screen with a black frame to get better quality in compromise for size.

Can I do this in DVD Lab Pro?

My original clip is a .rm which I have used RM Converter to change to .mpeg format.

    Cheers
    Jub

DVD Lab Pro doesn't encode. realmedia is a poor quality format and not a good one to convert from. I suggest you read the rm to DVD guide in the guides forum for the best way to convert it.

I realise that I need to encode using a different tool and thats fine. (obviously I have no choice of what to encode from, this is the source!)

But when I have my .mpg file in, say, 352 x 288, I want to display this low qual format in a different way in DVDLab Pro. i.e. if I played this in Windows Media Player, the image would be small in a black frame.

Jerky problem is related to interlace or framerate changes.

As for the image with black borders request, pretty much any encoder should be able to do this. TMPGEnc Plus would be my tool of choice and to do it in this software, you need to specify 720 x 576 as your output size on the Video tab, and then choose "center" on the Advanced tab for the video arrange method.
    If in doubt, Google it.
