I have some movies on my DVD that are compressed with XviD MPEG-4 Codec.
Movies with this codec are playing slow (about 3/4 of the normal speed).
The movies with MPEG1_Pay codec and Divx5.0 Codec in the same DVD are playing normal.

Movies with MPEG-4 Codec are playing slower only if i watch them on TV in my stand alone DVD PLAYER. Thay are playing normal if i play them in my computer DVD PLAYER/BURNER.

    Any advice why?
I use XviD MPEG-4 Codec (default settings) because the quality of my movies looks better with this codec.
Divx codecs (default settings) doesnt give me wanted quality.
Can someone tell me how to change default settings in Divx5.0 if i would be forced to change XviD MPEG-4 Codec with Divx5.0. Which are your settings in Divx5.0 or in some other newer Divx Codec?

Sounds like possibly GMC, QPEL, B-VOPs ... GSpot should tell you straight away.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    OK i will try Mpeg4modifier.
Now i trying Divx conveter and autoGK.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    DIVX CONVERTER
Divx convert my movies in *.divx movies. Movies are now playing fine in my stand alone DVD player. The problem is that this tool also auto lower my frame.
    Example:
    Frame 320 x 240 to 240 x 176
    Frame 496 x 368 to 352 x 256

I didnt find any way that i can do something about it. Lower frames are reducing my movie quality. Right?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    AutoGK
I have also tried to convert my Xvid movies again with Xvid codec but this time in autoGK.
Movies are now playable in my stand alone DVD player but the files are larger. I have set target quality to 75. If i set it lower than my files would be smaller but i dont know how low i can go to obtain good movie quality.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Digital media converter
I have used Digital media converter the first time when i was converting movies with Xvid codec. This tool also doesnt change the frames, create good quality movies, movies are also smaller then autoGK movies. To bad that movies with this tool dont work properly in my stand alone DVD player.

  4. The size of the file will depend on the codec's settings, not which program you use.

What framerate are the avi's in?
You may need to convert from pal to ntsc or vice versa.

I dont think that this has something to do with frame rate. The framerate is allways 29.971.

Different programs would have different default settings, even for the same codec.

As for how far can you go, it's impossible to say, and requires a LOT of experimentation. Buy some DVD-RWs and plan to spend a lot of time if you want to find out.
