forgot to ask which discs are you using + or -.
there are so many variables to burning good discs, its all about what works for you. i personaly always use nero6, some people wouldn't use it if you paid them, but for me it works.
Same as i always burn at the full disc speed but again this doesn't work for others.

Just to repeat, scan your disc to see if it's the media that's bad, and that is what it sounds like. If it's not the media, then you can try flashing if you want. Remember, if you flash to a modified firmware, the warrantee of you drive is gone. Having said that, I have flashed my drives a bunch of times to recognize more media and paritcularly to remove the riplock (read speed limitations built in by the manufacurer). Don't be obsessed with write speed, 8x is the most reliable with most newer media, even if it is rated 16x, you only save 4-5 min.

I don't have a litey but I believe it's under 280 PIE and under 4 PIF is accceptable, someone correct me if I am wrong please. With CD/DVDspeed it's under 280 and under 16. A single spike is nothing to be concerned about.

Hi Peter, as a long long time Ritek user this comes really hard to say ...

the new turnout of Ritek discs SUCK, period. Both the single and double layers, especially the double. There once was a time where Ritek was the only media I'd use for both audio and video projects ... though with spindle after spindle of s*hity burns I now wouldn't serve my dogs their dinner on them! It was with the last (and final) batch that I purchased in October of last year that really convinced me to stay away from anything Ritek/Ridate branded - after finally winning a 5 month in progress RMA battle with them I told them that they wouldn't have to worry about dealing with another complaint from me again because for as long as I'm alive I wouldn't be a buyer of their garbage. Presently, I buy nothing but TDK and Verbatim and so far I'm a happy camper.

I think it may be in your best interest to ditch the crappy Riteks.

FWIW, I still use printable Ritek G05 and haven't had a coaster yet. Maybe we get better stock than you guys, but I get clean burns every time (at 4x) and no sign of decay over time. When I started coming to this forum, Ritek was the brand to use. Over time that reuptation has fallen away, and most slag them off mercilessly in favour of TY. The only TYs I can get are Fujifilm japanese TY discs, and I get around 50% coasters from them.

The secret is, there is no perfect brand. There are cheap, nasty brands, and there are expensive nasty brands. The only brand that is close to perfect is the one that works for you. By all means, listen to what is said here, and try other brands if you are having problems. But do not, for an instant, believe that anyone here has the monopoly on knowing which brand will work for your combination of PC, burner, software and player. Only trial and error will tell you that.
