ok..I finally got my wireless router and a couple of pci wireless cards (D-LINK 108G), and my question is, can I just hook my wireless router up to my 8 port switch and leave everything else the way it is? I now have a router through the internet provider (dsl) and my own 8 port switch. I just need to know if I can hook that wireless router up to the switch and be good to go. I just bought a laptop off ebay and going to get a wireless card for that so I can roam about. Thank you for any help I may receive!

Thats all I did, Plug network cable into any port on existing router and then to wan, first port, or lan in ( if thats all it has) and power it up.

  3. All your neighbors will be surfing off your internet connection unless you switch encryption on. The RIAA and MPAA will be suing you for all those audio and video files someone's been downloading! Not to metion the visit from FBI for all that child porn that's passing through your internet connection. Oh, you have file sharing enabled? You're neighbors will be snooping through you files too then.

It should work, but enable security to avoid problems.

  6. Go to your wirelss modem configuration, then security, then set type as WEP, use Shared key, pick a key type, and type in the value in Hex.

Go to your laptop, locate your wireless modem, pick the station, goto advanced, and use WEP and shared key, and type in and confirm your key in Hex.

It is unnecessary complicated, but it works.

I just wanted to make sure you understood that most wireless routers are shipped with encryption disabled.
