    Hi,
I hope someone can help with this, as it's currently got me pulling my hair out.

I've got a set of mpeg2 video clips that i've imported onto my PC from DVDs that I originally burned using my set-top hard disc recorder. Essentially, all I want to do is edit these together and add a simple cross-fade transition between each of the clips. What's important is that I need both the video AND the audio to crossfade.

None of the software I've trialed so far is able to do this, with the exception of Pinnacle studio 10, which has a fantastic video editor, but is unstable and hangs before I can get any results out of it. I've also had a look at Ulead DVD MovieFactory, which does boast transitional effects, but which bizarrly only crossfades the video and leaves the audio to stop and start abbruptly (making all their transitional effects completely pointless, to my mind). Tsunami MPEG DVD author Pro doesn't appear to do any kind of crossfading - unless I'm missing something.

Any recommendations for what I need to do would be greatly appreciated. If the software lets me author a DVD, then all the better - but this is not essential. Smart rendering (so that the original video quality is maintained with only the transitions being re-encoded) would be fantastic, but to be honest, at this stage, I'll live without it if I have to!

    Thanks in advance

mpeg video wizard or mpeg video wizard dvd with builtin authoring, they just reencodes the transition and not the entire mpeg.

I have been able to do what you are trying to do, with an old version of Ulead Studio 7. I'm sure it can be done with movie factory. You just need to spend the time to become familiar with the software, and use the HELP function frequently. It souds like you simply did not have the audio and video locked together, prior to the effect.

A puritan like myself would consider creating fades and the like not to be a task for the authoring, but done much earlier ain the process with a video editor.

Just tried the Womble MPEG video wizard as recommended by Baldrick. Seems to work perfectly for what I need. Thanks for the advice mate!

Another question... I've been using Womble MPEG video wizard DVD for a few days, and the one additional feature I'd really like is the ability to add an audio soundtrack to the DVD menu. Other than that, the DVD menu editor is probably the best I've used - and it would be a shame to have to abandon it completely.
Does anyone know if it's possible to take the fully-authored DVD output from Womble (ie. with menus), and then add an audio soundtrack to the menu using another software tool, without changing any other aspect of the DVD?
