  1. Hello,

I'm making my first DVD. I've worked in audio/video production so I'm not a complete newbie.

I'm in the process of converting some DV files (from Adobe Premiere) into mpeg2 for this DVD.

I've tried converting the files using Ulead's DVD Factory and the latest version of TMPGenc. I used the default "DVD file format" template in both programs.

Ulead seems to produce a slightly better quality video, but the file size is much larger (one clip is 200 meg in TMPGenc and 280 meg in Ulead). About the only difference is that the TMPGenc file has an ocassional very short pause in some of the clips, almost like 1 frame is being held a bit long. I can live with it, but the Ulead file does not do this.

This raises several questions (hopefully some that folks here can answer).

    1. Since the Ulead file is larger, could it be possible that it's outputing an mpeg2 file that is incompatable with the average DVD player?

    2. Should I be tweeking the parameters in TMPGenc or is thier DVD template the way to go?

    Any info appreciated.

    Mark

  2. I too am looking at encoding Dv files using Tmpeg, Ulead DVD Movie Director, but am also looking at MyDVD 3 and CCE.
I've got my own template for TmPeg for creating DVD compliant mpeg2 files at very high quality which produces a smaller file than the standard template, but takes a long time to do so. You need a fast system to use it. If you'd like a copy drop me a mail.
