Hello,
I have been using Pinnacle Studio 10 to edit my video clips. My editing really just involves oepning avi files captured with my tv capture card, cutting or adding scenes and then outputting to mpeg or wmv for viewing on my website.
However I want to try something else thats not as resource hungry as Studsio 10. I want a program that shows you a tree view and allows you to add basic fades etc between scenes.
Can anyone suggest something that is user friendly?

Ulead Video Studio 8 or 9 or Pinnacle Studio ver. 9 with updates (not as bloated, works great, at least for some...).

So you reckon that Studio 9 would be a better option than using Studio 10?

I have both, upgraded 9 to 10, experienced what you said (slow, prone to crashes, stalls and hangs) went back to 9.43 and never looked back again. I love Studio's ability to detect scenes without splitting material. I capture, edit and output to DV only since MPEG2 encoder is not the best although still decent (not as sharp as others) and encode to MPEG2 outside Studio.
Ulead Video Studio lacks scene detection but is OK too, not as good as Pinnacle though, in my opinion. What takes 60 min in Studio will need 3 times as much time elsewhere. Pinnacle has intuitive easy interface and wealth of transitions and effects. Some users experience stability issues though (never happened to me...). I guess it depends on the system and computer maintenance habits. -
I'll second that Pinnacle Studio 9.43 recommendation. I've used for my quick and dirty stuff and it has worked for me very well. I read the comments of those who upgraded to v10 and decided that for me staying with v9.43 was a good choice. I also have installed Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0 for more detailed type work but Pinnacle 9.43 is what I mostly use.

I previously used Pinnacle Studio 9 (can't remember which update). Now I use Magix Movie Edit Pro 2004 which I thinik is 2 or 3 versions old for the Magix product. It is WAY less a resource hog than Pinnacle. Few if any crashes, FAST edit (can see the changes right away). I love it.
Magix encoder is pretty poor I think, so i use TMPGenc DVD Source Creator which does a great job on my simple projects of DV and photos. I use best quality settings because I only have aout 40 min. max to fit on.
