  1. Problem:
Using Virtual DUB, Audio becomes extremely out of sync after editing (cutting 1min segment) out of a Virtual Dub avi capture.

    Background:
MJpeg AVI captured with Vdub, (352x480, 29.97fps, "audio locked" box checked, PCM audio 48,000khz, MJpeg quality at "19" )

Capture went fine....respectable number of dropped frames.
RAW capture plays back fine with ATI MMC File player. No sync issues and I can slide to any point in the film without issue.

I am trying to edit out a 1 min segment within the AVI using Virtual DUB. I have selected DIRECT STREAM COPY for both Audio and Video. I mark the section that I want to delete and select DELETE FRAMES from the Edit dropdown.

Then I click on SAVE AVI and the end result is the AVI with sync an dropped sound section issues.?

I tried checking one of the boxes within the VIDEO dropdown that said "adjust video to audio length"? but this did not help. I also tried checking the option for "sync audio" under the AUDIO dropdown without success.

I cannot seem to locate any other AVI editor that can do what I wish to accomplish.

    Is there a solution???

I don't think TMPGENC can edit out a section of a file? I can only cut them in half and join correct? So, is my only alternative to convert the AVI to mpeg using TMPGENC and then cut it in half and cut the section, then re-join the file using TMPGENC???

If you are planning on converting to MPG with TMPGEnc anyway, you should try VDub's frameserver and not bother with resaving the avi... Do your editing and "save processing settings" only. Even with small avi files, use a frameserver as it saves alot of headaches (for me atleast.. I've NEVER had a problem with VDub's frameserver).

I did a 6 hour capture to a single 54.3gb avi yesterday with VDub and spent an hour deleting commercial after commercial, saved the processing settings and frameserved to TMPGEnc, and the sync is 100% exact.

    Just an idea

  3. hold the shift key on your keyboard while you are working the slider in VirtualDub. you will notice it locks in on certain frames like that. those are the only frames you should be cutting on or you risk audio sync issues.
