    hi.
I asked a friend to capture some footage into a computer and i've been "playing" with the video in some editors (Pinnacle Studio 9 SE, WMM, Ulead VideoStudio 9, Nero Vision Express 3, and would like to try maybe Premiere Elements). I would like to have the most professional final result as possible. wich one do you recommend? I really like pinnacle studio, and maybe version 10.5 is even better, but if there are others trials I can try, i wouldn't mind.

So this is it, it would want something not to expensive but near to professional (semi-professional )

And about the hardware. I went to the pinnacle site and saw the studio plus 700 PCI v. 10. is this any good for a good quality capture?

ps. soory about the long text and thanks in advance

Near professional? Only choices are Premiere and Vegas. You could argue over quality on Ulead products, but those others you mentioned are garbage (Nero, Pinnacle, etc).

Before buying any hardware , check capture card review's ... pinnacle has had very poor technical help and support .

I use the avertv usb2 ... very high quality in capture .. capture work's in supplied product , nero , videostudio , window's movie maker .

The quality is second to none , and support is excellent (normally 3 day's) .

Bought it for under $130.00au .

Require's powered hub , if other usb device's connected as it draw's a full amp from usb system .

    ------------------------------------------------------

For buget squeeze , consider avermedia dvd ezymaker , come's close against it's big brother usb2 .

Both have no issue with the M problem ... macroxxxxx , just dont want people searching forum for the word .

The pci card cost me $65.00au , and is very hard to come by , like hen's teeth .

Firewire is the preferred data transfer method here in the forums. If using USB, make sure it's using a USB2 port. Otherwise, it's a low-quality transfer.

See if you can get trials for Adobe Premiere Elements, and Vegas Movie Studio. Both are reasonably priced and are lower end semi-professional products. Or look for something like Adobe Premiere 6.5 (can be found for $50.00 area on ebay), or Vegas 5 which will be a little more, but well worth it.

so... i'm trying a trial version of vegas 6 and it seems a little complex software, therefore it can only be good . as for premiere, i've tried v.5.1 and it's as complex, therefore maybe as good as vegas. guess im gonna choose between these two...

as for the card, maybe not usb, i think i'll prefer firewire.
bjs: you sugest avermedia dvd ezymaker, i'm gonna look into it...

Look into the Canopus ADVC-110 as a capture device.

This is an external box with audio/video inputs. The box has hardware that converts the analog A/V into DV AVI format ... it then sends the DV AVI to the computer by firewire.

It works the same way a miniDV or Digital8 camcorder works when transferring to a computer by firewire.

The Canopus ADVC-110 works very well and it is one of the highest rated capture devices ever made. Plus DV AVI is the format you want since you will be doing a lot of editing.

If you don't mind spending the money I would go with the full blown version of Vegas which I think is up to version 6.0 now.

For editing it is hard to beat ... at least on the consumer/prosumer level.

You might also want to get SoundForge which is made by Sony (as is Vegas). SoundForge is an advanced audio editing program.

For DVD authoring you will hear all kinds of different answers but for something professional I would look into DVD-Lab Pro.
