Hello, im looking for a video encoder/decoder that converts large number of video files (wmv, avi, mpeg) because its annoying to have 10 converters to be sure that ill have the one that i need to convert that video. Is there an all-in-one video converter out there?
    Thanks

Didnt look if this question had all ready been asked.

convertxtodvd should handle most of these. So will a dedicated encoder such as TMPGEnc, CCE or even QuEnc, especially with the assistance of AVISynth.

Whatever you do, don't touch WinAVI with a 10ft pole .... please !
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yes, this question seems to pop up frequently here. ConvertXtoDVD is perhaps the best "one-click" solution out there, doesn't cost much. There's an earlier free version still floating around, apparently. Not sure how much the mpeg2 encoding has improved since this older free version, if at all? There's freeware out there too, you have to experiment yourself to judge the quality differences.

But to do it properly, you need to frameserve these video files with avisynth into a high-quality mpeg2 encoder like HC, TMPGEnc, etc. You may need to install appropriate DirectShow filters onto your system - installing ffdshow got it all working for me (from the advice of this forum! ). This way, too, you can add post-processing filters to your avisynth script to enhance the video quality.

If you're asking about batch converters, I think HC can do it.

Another option for some of the more odd formats is SUPER. But the tools mentioned above would be my first choice for most format conversions.

Then, it depends on what you want to convert to. AFAIK, ConvertXtoDVD is good if you want a DVD, not much else.
