I just bought a JVC Everio GZMG27 20GB HDD Digital Media Camcorder with 32x Optical Zoom [NTSC] and I would like to use it in a web conferencing context - namely have the camcorder act the same way a web conferencing camera would - where the picture generated by the camcorder shows up "live" in the web conferencing application (example: Yahoo Messenger or AOL instant messenger)

Any help you can offer in this regard would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Jay

  2. Have you tried the firewire port and does Yahoo or AOL see it.
Does it have a USB port, try that also. You should not need drivers for either connection on XP.

JVC website doesn't mention USB streaming. Does the manual?

The only software that will work with a USB2 device is packed with it (usually). Does the manal mention DV emulation?

The manual doesn't mention it nor does it work in a plug and play context when I use the USB firewire - I was thinking I would have to buy some kind of digital converter - one of those devices where I plug in the wire that I use to connect the camcorder to the TV and it converts it to a signal that works with the USB port...

If anyone has any suggestions on doing this or any other way to do it would be greatly appreciated...

    Thanks,

    Jay

I noticed in the introduction of Microsoft SP2 that there was a DirectShow provision for DV format emulation over USB2 using a WDM class driver.

I haven't yet seen this included in a consumer video device. If they would do this, it might be possible to use DV format interfaces and tools with a USB camcorder or transcoder. That would require that the device manufacturer write the software since each of these devices use proprietary drivers.
