  1. Hi,

I have two DVD9 discs with menus and three titles on each of these two disks. In the past I have used DVDFab Platinum (Gold Mode) v2.9.7.2 to split DVD9 into DVD5. It seems that these disks have some kind of CSS that DVDFab Platinum (Gold Mode), CloneDVD2 and CloneDVD cannot split into two disks. So I turned to DVDShrink but the program says that –

DVD Shrink cannot retain menu functionality when you re-author a menu. Instead, all menu buttons will be removed, and the menu will be converted into a regular video clip. If you wish to preserve the original menu functionality, you should backup, this DVD in Full Disc mode.

Since using DVD Shrink I cannot split this DVD while retaining menu functionality, I used DVD Shrink to separate three titles separately without menus into six separate DVD Folders (.BUP, .IFO and .vob files). So now I have 6 separate tiles each around 2.6GB. Now I thought that I can create my custom menu and have two titles per DVD5 disk using the TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6. After adding two titles using “Add DVD video” button and creating my menu in TMPGEnc DVD Author, the size of this DVD is around 5.2GB so I was hoping that this program will compress it to fit on 4.7GB DVD disk. But this program will not compress it for me but only gives me a message that the content size is more than the target 4.7GB DVD. Usually this program compresses files if one is working with .avi or .mpg files.

So I was wondering if anyone can give me some idea as what can I do now. Is there any other program that I can use instead of DVD Shrink, DVDFab Platinum (Gold Mode), TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, CloneDVD2 and CloneDVD? I am looking for a simple program to do this.

I don’t know why these programs are not able to remove the CSS either.

    Thanks,

    gm

Go ahead and create your disc image (with 2 movies and menu) even though it is too big. Then just open the image using DVDShrink to resize it.

CSS won't prevent splitting, it only prevents copying - and with tools like DVD Decrypter, it doesn't even do that. Arcoss, on the other hand, can make copying a pain. Use the very latest version of DVD Fab Decrypter to get the DVD across to your HDD, then try splitting it.

If you still can't, don't use Shrink to reduce the size. With that much data, the results won't be pretty in all likelihood. I would be using DVD Rebuilder with CCE, ProCoder or HCEnc.

  4. As a side note, I don't believe DVD Author will compress m2v that way it does mpg and avi, but it will re-encode it for you to match the file size you're after. It just takes a long freaking time.

TMPGEnc DVD author (especially versions 1.6 and earlier) has never been able to alter the video size.
    If in doubt, Google it.
