    Hi all - Newbie alert

First of all: apologies if this is in the wrong place, is already answered somewhere else, or is just a plain stupid question; I tried to search for the answer myself, honest!

My problem is this: I've an Xvid file which I've burned onto a data DVD for playing back in my standalone DVD player: Cambridge Audio DVD85.

The AVI plays fine in Media Player Classic, Window Media Player, Sonic CinePlayer, etc etc.

The problem is that when I play the file in the standalone player the video freezes or slows down at the same points every time (even if I power the player off and on). The audio isn't affected and plays fine.

It's not a problem with the burn - I can take the DVD to another PC and it'll play fine there.

I don't have another divx standalone player so can't try it out on another player. But I've not had any problems playing back other xvids in my standalone player.

Since the problems appear at the same point each time I'm assuming it's something to do with the way the avi has been encoded. Can anyone suggest a way of 'fixing' the avi?

    Thanks

Why don't you try to re encode the xvid to divx?

I was hoping to avoid reencoding - but it worked fine with little or no quality loss
