Why does the above program show that youve reached 100% disk capacity when your file size is only 4000mb, when a dvd5 disc is 4700mb?
Can you just ignore this warning and increase the bitrate until the file size is just under 4.7gb?
Also Ive just setup some files to encode in dvd source creator and the settings are as follows.
CBR mpeg-1 layer 2 audio
Average video bitrate = 4750
Audio bitrate = 384
Estimated file size = 4168.40
Can I reduce the audio bitrate so I can then increase the video bitrate to get a better picture quality? If so what is considered the lowest audio bitrate you would go without effecting the quality too much?

My experience has been that a DVD can hold about 4.4 GB of video along with a motion menu or two. I typically Make my video take up a total of 4.3 GB just to be sure there's room for the menu. Also, you almost never need the audio bitrate to be that high. True, thats what they use on studio pressed DVDs, but thats only necessary to get the extremely best audio with surround sound, etc. I typically use 224, which is the bitrate of VCDs and SVCDs. That's perfect quality for my needs. You can go as low as 192, and it'll still sound good, but I wouldn't go any lower than that.

TMPGEnc is just a little overzealous with disc limits, probably to assist people from getting burnt by crap media.
The limit is actually 4488MB or thereabouts though, too - see https://www.videohelp.com/dvd#dvdsizesIf in doubt, Google it. -
As jimmalenko says TMPGEnc is conservative on limits. Where it shows the size in TMPGEmc Xpress (should be similar to Source creator?) I got to approx 102% of the recommended size and have no problems
a 4.7 Gb DVD is 4.7 the same a a 80Gb hard disk is 80Gb (74.5 Gb to windows) so 4.36Gb as displayed by windows will fit 4.7 gb size as displayed by windows will not fit.
