  1. Hi. I'm trying to convert a video in mkv to avi with XviD. I found two programs here to do it (Alltoavi and SUPER), but I couldn't figure out how to converting using XviD 2 pass compression (the video looks crappy with normal compression).
So, how can I do that?

    Thanks a lot.

VirtualDubMod's mkv support is out of date. It doesn't support native AVC, VFR, etc.

Constant quant encoding does give excellent quality with a low value, however there is no real way to control filesize. If aiming for a certain size/bitrate, then 2 pass is definatly the way to go.

Never used SUPER or Alltoavi myself though. Possible that they don't offer 2 pass. Both use mencoder though right? mencoder can definatly do 2 pass XviD encoding. -xvidencopts pass=1/2

  4. Well, finally I used dvbmenc which uses mencoder, and it worked perfectly fine. Thanks.
