  1. Some of my Avi to dvd files i burn, they turn out to skip, or jerk every couple of seconds. It is only some of my movies, not all of them, so i know its not my disc im using, im using Winavi to convert my movies.

    Whats the problem?

    Your problem is WinAVI.

I suspect that you have 23.976 fps source material. WinAVI converts this to 29.976 fps, creating false frames as it goes. This creates the jerking you are seeing.

The correct way to convert this material is to encode it as 23.976 fps and apply 2:3 oulldown to the results. This will allow it to playback correctly.

You can do this either by using a decent encoder, or by using the ocmmercial version of ConvertXtoDVD, which now incorporates pulldown for 23.976 source material. The free version (DivxtoDVD) does not, and suffers the same jerkiness as a result.

FitCD (free) -> Avisynth (free) -> HCEnc (free) -> DGPulldown (free) -> DVD Author GUI (free)

  5. Try AVISynth with AVSGenie if you want a GUI and dont want to code. Its fairly easy to use. Also, I think the older version of TMPGENC (2.5 or earlier) is free (I cant remember).

As pointed out in my first post, DivxtoDVD encodes 23.976 material as 29.976 and creates duplicate frames to fill out the missing space. This results in jerky output, especially on pans and zooms, which is the problem the OP is trying to resolve. The only way to truely avoid this is to encode as 23.976 with 2:3 pulldown. ConvertXtoDVD does this, otherwise it has to be done manually or with tools that front end to encoders that can.

It does it automatically when it detects 23.976 NTSC material as the source. Do a test run and you will see it in the logs.

Nope. DivxtoDVD encodes at a full 29.976. Watch the log for the number of duplicate frames it creates
