    hello,

I have a dvd that has been converted to vobs from avi but the audio isnt very loud. Is there a way I can make the audio louder even though I dont have the original avi file anymore? Do I have to convert back to avi first?

    Thanks

No, just extract audio from VOBs, edit audio, reauthor with old video, new audio.

    Run the VOBs thru VOB2MPG
Demux audio and video with for instance TMPGEnc
Edit audio in audio editor, save as wav
    Encode to AC3 with ffmpeggui
Author old video (m2v) + new audio as DVD
    Done.

Audacity tends to be a favorite here. Plus its a free audio editor

    Couple of questons?

When I setup tmpgenc what audio setting do I use CBR-linear or mpeg 1 or vbr-linear or mpeg 1? I assume I just let tmpgenc create two seperate files m2v and wav???

Also what audio editor do you suggest and what exactly am I doing in the audio editor?

    Thanks once again

None. You just go to the mpeg tools and go simple demultiplex. You get the audio/video in whatever format they are in the mpg.

Make the audio louder. Wasn't that the whole point of this?

Okay I had never seen that option in tmpgenc before because I had always just started with the wizard.

As for the audio do I load it into audacity and then click the "Make audio louder button" or something? Im just not quite sure of the steps involved.

One more question, when I ran the movie through vob2mpg it created two files. I ahve been working on these two files. Is this okay or should I join them somehow to create one file?

    Thanks again for the help.

Ok open audacity. Click file-open. Choose the directory you saved the audio file in and open it. Then follow these steps:

After its been increased then save it as a new file. You'll have to experiment to see how much you need to increase the volume.

I don't think audacity accepts ac3. You have to convert it to wav. If its a 5.1 ac3 you can have besweet convert it to 6 mono wavs.

One question do I have to covnert the audio back to ac3?

I used PX3 AC3 to WAV and set it to increase the volume when it created the wav file. I was going to just use tmpgenc express and put the new wav file in as the audio. Will this do or should I convert the audio back to ac3?

This is not going so good. I used px3 to convert the ac3 to wav and increased the decibels to make the audio louder. I then tried to convert these wav files back to ac3 with ffmpeggui but when I try to select the source files the two wav files arent listed. They dont even have a wav file extension even though they play okay in wmp. Its as if there not audio files.

Also Im not sure if I should use tmpgenc express or tmpgenc dvd author?

Hey Trueman, when you use PX3 AC3 to WAV remember to add the ".wav" extension with your output file name. Sorry, I should have warned you. For instance: "yourwav.wav" not just "yourwav".

Then, just load it into ffmpeggui & set a bitrate (192-256, I tend to use 224).

You can use TDA for authoring, yes.

    Good luck!
