    DVD REBUILDER is much better than DVD SHRINK in terms of video quality.

    I use both DVD Shrink and DVD Rebuilder.

    Shrink is great for shedding everything but the movie (movie only reauthoring). Often you find that a movie on a DL will fit on an SL disc once everything else is removed, and if it won't don't need much reducing.

    If it does need a good reduction, DVD Rebuilder does the best job at preserving quality. You can reauthor in DVD Shrink (with No Compression set) and reduce it in rebuilder.

    Or you can buy DVD Rebuilder Pro, which has reauthoring features built-in.

  4. Yes, and how do these two programs compare when it comes to the amount of TIME required to do a conversion. For instance;

    A one and a half hour movie on a Dual Layer DVD converted to a single layer 4.7 DVD. I'd like some people here to give "time" conversion results from their own experience! I use a 3ghz P4 and I do not seriously consider DVD rebuilder because of the time difference for conversion. DVD shrink is FAST and I can live with slightly lower quality.

    D'oh!

    If you are really interested in speed, use DVD Shrink. It takes me about 30-40 minutes for most movies from putting in the disc till the backup is finished burning.

    But if you really are interested in quality, then I would follow the other posters recommendations, especially on long movies that Shrink has to compress higher than 70%.

    I can shrink a 90 minute mivie using Shrink in around 15 - 20 minutes (assuming ripped to the HDD first - I never rip with Shrink)

    I can do a 3 pass encode in DVD Rebuilder in 2.5 - 3 hours.

    Quailty is top of my list (why watch it if the copy is sh*t ?), so the time isn't that much of an issue. Given that my old machine you take over an hour for Shrink and 5 - 6 hours for rebuilder, I am happy with the numbers I get. I don't do DL because they discs are too expensive, and the compatability too hit and miss.
