I've come to a realization.
Even if CCE IS better at VBR distribution, it's not worth the effort involved.
I got done with my movie, and it came out the right size, and I could mux it using bbMPEG (but had to have it mux by MAX bitrate, not AVG... is this normal?) Picture does look very good, but probably just as good as TMPGEnc does. After all, it's being played on a TV, and I'll be sitting back a few feet.
Anyway, with all the hassle I went thru, and I still don't know for sure if it'll play in my standalone... it's not worth it. Especially when, all things considered, TMPGEnc is very very good. I've never had one look TERRIBLE, nor go over the file limit I need.
I'm going back, this time I'll try another filter (sharpen edge + soften block), which is supposed to help eliminate some blocks.
I may try to use CCE, but only for MPEG-2. The whole thing is klunky (unless you have a source AVI)...

I would like to try using cce for encoding svcds.but where can I get the 2.5 version? they only have the 2.62 version on the cinemacraft site..John
