My brother is having an issue. He has the Panasonic DVC80 camcorder and he is using windows xp pro with SP2. When he plugs in the camera...the usb will act like it sees it but really it doesn't. He gets the sound like a usb has connected but that is it. He has uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. He is using Pinnacle Studio 9 Movie Box Deluxe along with Adobe Premiere 1.5.
Sometimes he can get it to recognize and sometimes he can't. It's weird. Any ideas???

Try another cable
Port may be partially blown especially if you're plugging stuff in with the comp on -
Most camcorders use Firewire not USB to transfer video to the PC so just make sure you follow the manual before drawing conclusions too early. You can connect both directly and control camcorder from the PC capture program no need to go via Moviebox. Quality will be as recorded plus it makes editing a breeze. If you have issues with getting stuff captured via Moviebox then there is an issue with Moviebox installation or drivers, nothing to do with your camcorder.
Pinnacle Studio can handle any firewire camcorder with ease giving access to all transport controls right from your computer screen. Check your Panasonic manual first.
You would probably need a 4-6 firewire cable (as opposed to 6-6 regular one).
