There are a number of differences. The major ones are the amount of configuration you can get into (more in pro than free), and the re-authoring options available in the pro version. You can do movie only and other variations without having to process through something like DVD Shrink first. You can set individual titles to half-D1 - great for TV series, where the free version can fall down.

Is it worth it ? That's a harder question. When it was $10, the answer was definately YES. Now that it is $30, it's a harder call. I does bundle much of the functionality of DVD Shrink into the re-authoring section, but if you have a comfortable process, you might not get as much out of it.

Is English your first language? Do you proofread before posting?

No, encoding speed has nothing to do with your version of DVD-RB, but with the encoder used and the CPU power of your computer.

Just about anything DVD-RB Pro can do that the free version can't, can be done fairly easily with freeware tools, with a few exceptions. As mentioned, half D1 resolutions are possible with the Pro version. Reencoding menus to shrink them can be pretty tricky, and compressing DVDs with Angles/ILVU while keeping the angles can be damned near impossible. If you keep the menus as is, or use MenuShrink on them to cut them down to size, then the freeware version is OK. If you strip out all but one angle, then the freeware version is OK. The only time I use it the Pro version is when I have a DVD with angles and I want to keep the angles.
