Okay I've read about a hundread guides to doing *almost* what I want to do, but never quite gets the whole job done right. And ended up with a lot of useless software donwloaded.

I have a few MKV and OGM files with soft subs, and I want to convert them to either AVI or some MPEG form with embedded video subs, so I can encode them with PSPvideo9's FFmpeg GUI. Since FFmpeg doesn't support subs, they need to be embedded.

So, can I be helped? I would prefer not to use any trial or payware utilities unless nessesary (because I'm cheap )
I know very little about video encoding/transcoding trickery otherwise...

Actually according to ffmpeg -formats it does support dvd subs.

The version of ffmpeg used presumably has MobileHackerz patches included? If so then it supports AVISynth scripts as input. Should be a guide involving subbing with AVISynth/VSFilter somewhere around.

Well, if it does, I can't get it to work. At least not with PSPvideo9 and the PSP. Thanks, but that was just some background info - I was really more interested in converting the two formats to one of the other two formats with embeded subs
