    Dear Sirs/Madam,

I sincerely hope that you would be able to help me in this problem.

    First, my problem,

The dvds that i authored plays fine in the computer, i can skip chapter, forward and reverse with no problems whatsoever. When i play the dvd on a standalone set, i can still do the all the things mentioned except forward and reverse. When i hit any of those buttons, the picture hangs, the counter will still move, audio no problem.
When i hit next chapter, everything runs smoothly again.

okay, this is how i arrived at the final dvd

    1. capture with ulead video : DVD option; bitrate set at 6500; quality set at best ; gives me 4.89GB for 1.5 hours of MPG.

    2. run the file through Tmpgenc for some post processing ie noise reduction, simple colour correction, etc. Setting at DVD PAL (MPEG-2 720x576 25fps CQ_VBR 50, Layer-2 48000Hz 192kbps). gives me a file half the size; motion search at high quality. at this point if i burn the file to a dvd as data and play on standalone sets, I have no problem with the forward/rev button.

    3. uses nero vision for transitons, chaptering and authoring, when done, burns to HDD at standard quality (nero smart encoding activate)

    4. nero burning rom for writing the video_ts to dvd+r.

    5. everything plays fine on the computer. on standalone sets, forward and reverse give me problem

Please help!! Did i miss a step or make some mistake along the way? Thanks.

Nothing obvious that I can see, but you might try a better authoring program than Nero. TMPGEnc DVD Author has a trial period. Try that if you have the same file still available or a similar one and see if that works better.

The CQ_VBR might be an issue (not sure, and just guessing).

Try CBR just to see if that helps... (can work on the quality later)

Sounds like Nero hasn't written the navigation markers correctly. I would try authoring in (anything else ?) smething better to see what happens. Try TDA or DVD Lab Pro.

i did managed to get the forward/reverse working, but only when i let nero reencode (smart encoding off).

i've tried using 2-pass variable instead of cq_vbr, and i'm happy to say that it works fine now, and i didn't need to let nero reencode.
