16x DVD-r blanks incompatable with the Toshiba RD XS52

I've been using 8x DVD-r blanks in my Tosh RDXS52 and they work great. No problems at all. But 8x blanks have all but disappeared from the shelves here in New York City. They have been replaced by the 16x DVD-r.

I called Toshiba and asked about 16x media. According to customer support, 16x DVD-r blanks will not give a reliable burn in the model RDXS52. I didn't ask about the model 32 but I would assume the same to be true. I bought my 52 less than a year ago. I just sent an Email to them complaining about this and I suggest other Tosh owners of these models do the same.

FWIW, I have been burning Verbatim and Fuji 16X DVD-Rs in my KX50 (80 gig XS52). They play fine. I also create ISOs from them and burn backups on my PC. No failures yet.
