When is a new version of Sony Vegas expected??

I am interested in purchasing a copy of Sony vegas, but it seems that version 6 has been out for quite a while. Does anyone know of any plans by Sony to release version 7? I don't really want to spend this kind of money only to have the software (and support) replaced a or two month later.

Also, what is Sony's history with upgrades to new versions? specifically is there a substanial price break for v.6 owners upgrading to v.7? Any idea what such an upgrade would cost?

6.0d just came out not long ago .... acid pro 6 was just released today ...

a new version of vegas seems to come out once a year ... you have to go by that as Sony does not pre-announce new releases , and people that know are under a NDA ...

as for upgrade -- if you buy within 30 days of a new release, you get the new release for free (based on past policy) ...

upgrades after that for a release are VERY reasonable ....

Thanks for the info. Do you happen to know when v.6 was released? Judging from the comments section in the tools page, it was between April '05 to July '05. If so, version 7 may well be out this summer.

NAB Apr 24-27 is the likely time for announcements.

I haven't heard much buzz about a new major release. I would bet V7 will be a major rewrite to support a wider range of Sony products. Today Vegas is focused to DV and HDV.
