    Hi, I bought a video capture/tv tuner card. I have installed the card in the PCI slot and the software, but I cannot install the drivers. Everytime I boot the computer it comes up "CANNOT GET DEVICE" and then says it has found new hardware, do I want to install the drivers. I keep putting the cd in that came with the card, but it cannot find the drivers.
    The card has a Philips chipset 713X and the only details I have are it is a SAA7130 tv card. I tired to download some drivers from the net, but it says I am missing the card, so I think it is for a different capture card. Can anyone help????
    This is the second card I have tried to install on this computer (the first was an external unit, but it never worked) - I am running windoes XP on a P3.

    Thanks

  2. you need to identify the hardware .. try looking at the actual card for any markings ,, maybe hauppage or ??

    Remember sp2 ... for xp

    When xp was released it buggered up alot of capture device's ... ms released a patch to cure the problem soon after many complaints ... sp2 has the patch included .

    ---------------------

    Audio from source gose dirrectly to line-in only on sound card ... do not use that idiot loopback cable that came with the card ... you will get a cleaner picture by doing it this way .

    ---------------------

    As for the tuner ... ariel connected ... run program that came with card ... check tuning options ... make sure the card is set to the required format for country region ... pal : bgh (dont recall them , as this is way back) .

    Make sure the card is set in correct mode ... vtr or cable/ariel

    Run tuner ... dont expect magic .

    Even if the card cannot pickup any channels ... those inbuilt tuners were rubbish from day one ... best via vcr .

    =============

    Capture card installation ... one more time ... again

    1: Uninstall all drivers and software that came with card .
    2: Shutdown system and REMOVE the device itself .

    3: Start computer ... INSTALL the software package for the device (some also install drivers)
    4: Shutdown pc ... INSERT card , restart pc ... away you go

    (if asked for device drivers at anytime ... insert drivers disk to complete install)

    This is how the cards are supposed to be installed ... if you fail to install them in the correct manner ... then you now know why it dosent work correctly .

    ============

    Finally some people try choking up the pc slots ... just because one is empty dosent mean you can use it ... cards can be very picky where they get installed and how .

    The best order : from top to bottom

    Onboard agp / agp slot / pci1 (only one may be used as they share resources)
    Pci2 / pci3 (only one may be used - shared resource's) ... best for capture card
    Pci4 / pci5 (only one may be used - shared resources) ... best for pci modem

    These are in preference for system boards that include onboard network / audio / vga .

    Those with limited pci slots , no onboard network , audio , vga , usb2 , need to take these into consideration when choosing more device's to install or run the risk of overloading both the system , by coming into conflict where resources are tied up with another device alread in use ... or damaging the system board / connected device's permanently .

  5. I bought a TV tuner from e-bay from a guy from Hong Kong with Philips 713X Chipset as signal decoder. I experienced the same problem! Perfect image but no sound except form a loud Hiss that remains even when i try to fine tune the channel! I have tried many things from reinstalling to change drivers or install Chris TV software or other staff nothin !!!
    Any ideas???

  6. A lot of these "loopback" cards seem to have major issues with onboard sound. I had a winTV card and it was a nightmare, I would record some stuff with sound, then run a game and try to record something afterwards and bang! all sound gone. Reboot and still no sound, only re-installation of drivers and re-settings of options would get it to work again.(imitation of Hulk ensued). It very quickly went back to the shop. thats why dedicated hardware (dvd recorder) can be so much better. one job, done properly.

    Follow the previous advice .

    And now I remember what caused all these problems ... a directx9 midi security patch ... should have remembered it when I had the fly3000 .

    Go here for the patch required :
