The MP4 files is around 330mb and is 43 minutes long. I want to convert this so that I can burn on a dvd disc so that it plays on a normal dvd player. How long would the conversion take approx. take?

Depends on the CPU, compression codec etc.....
How long is a piece of string?Regards,

I'm sorry, this is my first time doing any type of conversion. So I'm a total newb at all this...I don't understand your question.

Conversion from one video form to another will depend on the type of input file, the speed of your processor, the method of encoding, and the type output file - there are other variables too, but these are the main ones.
In short, you just have to try it out.Regards,

Assuming its not drm content - which you're not allowed to convert anyway
- you could output it to a standalone dvd recorder and make the dvd in realtime. That is if you have a video card with a video out and a standalone dvd recorder.
That would probably be the fastest way to do it. Or get a divx capable dvd player (around $50 USD these days - probably less used on an auction site).
Other than that it would be probably twice the running time of the video to convert or more depending on your computer specs and the quality level and any filters you use.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
There are various guides in this site to do this. By the looks of it, it's probably a program thats an hour without commercials. Using DVD-Rb with 6 pass encoding, it takes approximately 5-6 hours on a 3000+ AMD64 to do 45 minutes of video. Less for less passes but the quality drops. It also depends on the bitrate of the original file.
If you have a new x1000 series ATI video card, you can use GPU power to shorten this by using a special program downloaded from their site to encode video. I don't have one and have never tried it but I've heard that it is extremely fast and can be use to re-encode to different formats. This method has been said to be up to 13 times faster which I assume is using an x1900 card. GPU using programs are just coming in. Vector physics was the first application and I hear that they're trying to improve game physics with the GPU.
The best way is just to use the original file in a mpeg4 player which can be really cheap. I bought the kosch vers.b and I had to take it apart myself and reconnect some loose cables but it plays almost everything. -
I checked the mp4 file:
video bitrate is 1095 kbps
audio is 128 kbps
If I convert the file to VOB, do I use the same video and audio settings? higher or lower settings? -
Well you'd convert the mp4 to mpg (mpeg 2 for dvd quality) first. Then you'd AUTHOR the mpg file to dvd and burn the video_ts folder. The vobs are in the video_ts folder in the proper structure for the dvd player to read it properly.
First of all your audio is most likely mp3 and dvd takes mp2, ac3, or pcm wav only. So you'd need to extract it and convert it. Then you can use the same video bitrate or go higher. Though you don't want to go too high since you can't really improve the quality simply by using a higher bitrate on the reencode.Donatello - The Shredder?
