  1. Guys some of you may have read my previous posts https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=296806. Basically I am converting DV to XVID mainly to watch the vids on my pc. I followed this link https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=244151 and the vids are coming out good I think, but one thing. The vids arent as sharp as the original after I deinterlace and all else. Is there anyway to improve on this also, or is it pretty much either deinterlace and have dull colors and picture or not deinterlace and have a sharp picture and colors, but have those interlace lines. Thank you for all your info and help. Oh, one more thing..does it take more processing to run a xvid vid? Seems I have some lag and not sure if thats what it is or if I did something wrong with the converting.

Try VirtualDub and the Divx codec and setup Divx to deinterlace the clip.

Don't use the VirturalDub deinterlace filter.

  3. You can also just have ffdshow deinterlace on the fly for you.

Xvid does take more CPU power to display, but unless you have a very slow computer, you should have no problems there.

There are several ways to deinterlace in VD. Smart Deinterlace is one of the better ones. http://neuron2.net/smart/smart.html

If you are only viewing on the computer, you could try what Raga suggested.

I use VLC Media Player and it has interlace adjustments also, if you don't have ffdshow installed.

  5. I don't really see the point of deinterlacing at all, unless you put the file out to people who are clueless about what it is and think the file is corrupt or something.

I am assuming that, if XviD is viewed on a DVD-player, the player will recognize it as interlaced and will work accordingly, not? If that's the case, there is no point deinterlacing for TV viewing either.

  6. Guys its 3 A.M. and I am still playing around with this trying to see how to get the best converted vid. Quick question, if you are getting a lot of droped frames and the vid seems to be in slow motion during play back that has to do with the pc cpu doesnt it and not the way I am conveting it? Also, maybe its because I am tired , but what is up with this ffdshow? Is it a seperate program that you run your vid through or is it a plug in for whatever you are using, because I cant find the exe. to start ffshow. Maybe I am tired. Thank you again for all your help and info.

  7. You don't need ffdshow at the time of conversion, only at playback. Once installed, it becomes active whenever you start playing a clip, you can see its icon in the system tray, right clicking which you can set different filters to be applied on the run.

  9. When using the SmartDeinterlace filter in VirtualDub be sure to set the Edge Directed Interpolate option. That will give sharper edges than the default blend.

Thanks, will try it out now. It seems there are so many different options to do all of this.
