hi, im printing off some dvd covers from generic, most are given at 300 pixels per inch but if will the cover sufffer if i change it to 600 pixles per inch, im not botherd about ink consumption

im using hp everyday photopaper at 170gsm's

alos are there any sites that have types of images that u can test your printer, ink and paper, kind of multicoulerd 3d shapes with hundreds of little sections with different colours, or a lis tof lines listing like 1000 different colours and a way to figure if ur ink is good, u know what i mean, something wsomeone really smart has come up with to makie a universal test,

i really carnt be botherd getting aloufd of differt inks and printing test pages cos they each have there benefits

e.g 270 gsm premium glossy paper is smooth colors but clougy texts and cloudy small stuff but hp everyday 170gsm paper u can see all the pixels if u look really close but all the text is really sharp

If you ONLY change the resolution to double, your image will shrink to 1/4 of the size, technically speaking.

the text is crystal clear but im worried about the picture and custom pictures, id print test pages but i dont want to waste the ink and paper

Then it depends on your printing program, how it scales up the picture to fill the area.

The answer is "it doesn't make any difference". Your picture itself is not 300 dpi or 600 dpi. it's probably closer to 72 dpi. So whether you print it at 300 dpi or 600 dpi shouldn't make a bit of difference since it's being blown up any way.

Unless you have super vision you're not going to see much difference between 300 and 600 anyway.

So it was my brain, blurring the dots and not my printer. Good news. I then printed off a couple of more resolutions. At 400 dpi, I could just very barely start to see a hint of dots at about 8", but once again the magnifying glass showed them prominently, but I could definitely only see a gray bar at 12". At 300 dpi, I could clearly see the dots at about 8", lost them at about 10.5" and at 12" they were definitely gone and only a gray bar could be seen. I must have vision somewhere 20/20 and 20/15 according to the chart. If you want to try this yourself, you can download the images yourself.
