Note to moderator: this is NOT a request for hacks (macrovision or region) but rather an update to fix a bug.
I recently recieved a Sylvania SRD3900 dual DVD/VCR deck for free. Everything works great except for one thing: it doesn't like dual layer DVD. I've searched here on videohelp.com (no SRD3900 player listed??) and on Google. It seems that while Sylvania made this, it was sold exclusively through Sears and it was up to Sears to fix this. People have stated that Sears never responded to email regarding to firmware update. I just sent an email myself in case Sears have changed since then. I would think either Sears or Sylvania would fix this since it seems to be a factory defect affecting many (all maybe?) units and not age related defect.
In case Sears won't or can't help with me and Sylvania doesn't support this, do any of you know where might I find a homebrewn firmware update to fix the dual layer issue? I would love to retire my 10 years old VCR (never serviced, a personal record for any mechanical unit that I own) and remove my Apex player that is a space hog and likes to skip a lot for no reason.
