I am looking for an application which is able to convert audio anything to anything, or at least the closest possible: the more options the better, any advise?

BeSweet does a lot. You probably want a GUI with it, BeSweetGUI or BeLight. MediaCoder is another audio encoder that is very versatile. Those are about as close to all-in-one encoders as I know of.

I second the vote for dbPowerAmp , it does it all. Try the .wma at 192k 2 pass vbr - it's as good or better than 256k anything else.

I bet you couldn't ABX a ~192k VBR lame encoded mp3, a ~192k vorbis encode or lc aac encode from the source so I can see no reason to use WMA.
